About Parkinsons.org
Our Mission
Parkinsons.org is an independent, patient-first guide to Parkinson's disease. We provide comprehensive, evidence-based information for people living with PD, care partners, and families. Our goal is to bridge the gap between complex medical literature and the practical knowledge that patients and families need every day, without advertising, pharmaceutical sponsorship, or donation appeals cluttering the experience.
Parkinson's disease affects nearly one million people in the United States and more than eleven million worldwide. A diagnosis can feel overwhelming, and finding reliable information should not add to that burden. We believe everyone deserves access to clear, cited, and accessible health information — free from commercial influence.
Our History
The parkinsons.org domain was first registered in 2002 and has been dedicated to Parkinson's disease information since its inception. In 2026, we rebuilt the site from the ground up with modern medical evidence standards, interactive clinical tools, and accessibility features designed specifically for people with motor impairments.
This is not a rebranding of an existing organization. Parkinsons.org is independently operated and is not affiliated with the Parkinson's Foundation (parkinson.org), though we respect their work and link to their resources throughout our site.
Editorial Approach
Every article on Parkinsons.org draws from peer-reviewed medical literature, current clinical guidelines, and authoritative sources including the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the Parkinson's Foundation, the Movement Disorder Society, and Cochrane systematic reviews. We reference original research studies, systematic reviews, and consensus statements from recognized medical organizations.
Each article lists the source citations behind it so readers can verify claims and explore the underlying research. When new evidence emerges or clinical guidelines are updated, we review and revise our content to reflect current medical understanding. All articles display a last-updated date for transparency.
Our content is researched and written from peer-reviewed medical literature, government health sources (NINDS, NIH, MedlinePlus), and established clinical guidelines, with every medical claim traceable to the sources cited on each page. Our full editorial standards explain how we research, source, and check accuracy. Our content is not yet reviewed by a licensed physician — see “Medical Advisory Board” below for where that stands and how we’re working to change it.
Medical Advisory Board
We are building a Medical Advisory Board of movement disorder specialists to review and strengthen our content. Until the board is formally constituted, all content is verified against published clinical guidelines from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the Movement Disorder Society (MDS), and peer-reviewed literature. No page on this site displays “Reviewed by” credentials until a real, named medical reviewer is in place.
We believe this transparency is more honest than fabricating expert credentials. When our advisory board is active, we will name each member with their verifiable qualifications on this page.
What We Are Not
Parkinsons.org is an independently operated health information website. We are not a clinical organization, hospital system, or nonprofit foundation. Our content is not written or reviewed by physicians at this time. We synthesize information from authoritative medical sources and present it in accessible language, but our content should not be treated as professional medical guidance. We encourage readers to verify all health information with their healthcare team.
Our Standards
We aim to follow these principles in every piece of content we publish:
- Evidence-based. All health claims are supported by published research, clinical trials, or established medical guidelines. We do not publish anecdotal claims as medical fact.
- Regularly updated. Content is reviewed against current sources on a recurring basis and updated to reflect the latest research and clinical consensus. Articles include a last-updated date for transparency.
- Accessible language. Medical terminology is explained in plain English. We aim for clarity without sacrificing accuracy, so that readers of all backgrounds can understand the material.
- Transparent sources. Every article cites its sources with inline references. Readers can trace any claim back to the original research or guideline.
- No advertising influence. Editorial content is never influenced by commercial interests. We do not accept payment from pharmaceutical companies or device manufacturers in exchange for favorable coverage.
- Corrections welcome. If you find an error or outdated information on any page, please let us know. We aim to correct factual errors within 72 hours.
