Privacy Policy

Overview

Parkinsons.org respects your privacy. This website is a health information resource, and we understand that browsing habits related to medical conditions are inherently sensitive. We have designed our data practices with this sensitivity in mind, collecting only what is necessary to maintain and improve the site while minimizing any impact on your privacy. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and what we deliberately choose not to collect.

Analytics: What We Use and Why

We use Vercel Web Analytics for website analytics. It is a privacy-focused service that helps us understand how visitors use our site. On informational pages (articles, guides, reference content), it collects aggregate data including page views, referral sources, general geographic region, and device type. It does not use cookies, does not build visitor profiles, and does not track you across other websites or devices.

We use this data solely to understand which topics are most helpful to our readers, identify content that needs improvement, and ensure the site works correctly across different devices.

Interactive Tools: No Analytics Collected

Our interactive tools — including the Symptom Self-Assessment, Medication Reference and Interaction Checker, and Find a Specialist directory — process all data entirely in your browser. Your responses, medication selections, and search queries within these tools are never sent to our servers.

Analytics are excluded from all tool pages. Our analytics is configured to discard, before anything is transmitted, every event on any page under the /tools/ path. This means we do not collect any behavioral data — including which tool pages you visit, how long you spend, or how you interact with the tool — when you are using our interactive tools. We made this decision because behavioral data collected on health tool pages could constitute sensitive health information about your condition.

Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

  • We do not collect personally identifiable health information.
  • We do not use advertising networks or retargeting services.
  • We do not use social media tracking pixels or embed social media widgets.
  • We do not use cookies to track you across other websites.
  • We do not require you to create an account or provide personal details to access any content or tool on this site.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for commercial purposes.

State Privacy Law Compliance

We are committed to respecting the privacy rights established by state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) and the Washington My Health My Data Act. Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, do not sell personal data, and exclude analytics from health-sensitive tool pages, we believe our practices are consistent with the requirements of these laws.

If you are a California resident and wish to exercise your rights under the CCPA/CPRA, or a Washington state resident with questions about your rights under the My Health My Data Act, please contact us at info@parkinsons.org.

Email Communications

If you contact us via email, we retain your message and email address only to respond to your inquiry. We do not add your email address to any mailing list unless you explicitly opt in. If you would like to request deletion of any personal data associated with your email communication, please reach out through our contact page and we will process your request promptly.

Your Rights

You can browse this site freely without providing any personal information. You are not required to accept cookies to use this site, and disabling cookies in your browser will not affect your ability to access our content or use our interactive tools.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
