Caregiver Burnout in Parkinson's Disease
Research consistently shows that Parkinson's disease caregivers experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, and physical health problems than caregivers for many other conditions. The progressive nature of PD, combined with motor and non-motor symptoms that require increasing assistance over time, creates unique caregiving challenges. Studies estimate that 40 to 70 percent of PD caregivers report significant stress, yet many do not seek help until they reach a breaking point. Early identification of caregiver burden is an important step toward getting the support you need — and deserve.
Before You Begin
This assessment is based on the Zarit Burden Interview (12-item short form), a well-validated tool used by healthcare professionals to measure caregiver stress. It has been adapted to help Parkinson's disease caregivers identify areas where they may need additional support.
There are 12 questions and the assessment typically takes 3-5 minutes to complete.
